Earth Friendly Companies and Why You Should Know Them

mountain lakesWe are starting a new series on the blog where the three of us ladies will each be posting about the same topic. You guys all know the basic three themes to the blog — sea (for all things ocean related), field (for all things terrestrial) and tribe (for sharing life experiences with those around us). So naturally we have several other things we focus on that fall into these categories in some way, like sustainable living and health and wellness.

One of my most important goals for the blog was to make it a place where you can come to learn something new. It essentially began as my photo journal for documenting new things I was trying, like learning to live a more simple life or learning how to live on an island (it’s not all rainbows and sunshine). Then the blog grew – it took on new authors to bring new perspective and ideas. So we’re joining together to bring you three different stories on the same issue. For the first go-around, we’ll be sharing about our favorite earth friendly companies.

Sustainability is like accountability – we should all be held to those standards. And believe it or not, it’s really not that difficult to add some type of sustainable practice to your life. For instance, composting. You can make a full circle with your produce waste through composting — throw that banana peel in the bin, use the soil to seed your herbs or vegetables (or bananas) and start producing some of your own food. This eliminates the number of times you drive to the store, reducing your carbon footprint. Every little bit helps, never think that just one person cannot make a difference. I encourage you to try to find these types of sustainable cycles in your life!! Share them here if you’d like!

So supporting earth friendly companies goes beyond just buying their products. It means supporting their cause – sharing their ideas, spreading the word about WHY they are sustainable or earth friendly or fair trade, etc. Why are those ideas important? What does it matter to me? Well, we will be taking the plunge into consumerism to help show you where your $$ will make the most change and where you’ll get an amazing product in return. We aren’t sponsored or supported by these companies in any way, it’s literally our honest opinion and review. Some stories may share interviews with the company itself, or share a review of the product we have chosen, but all cases will describe WHAT their earth friendly practices are, WHY they are worth supporting and WHERE you can find them.

Next week, Caitlin is our first author to share about her favorite swimsuit company doing some amazing things with recycling. Until then, enjoy your weekend!! We are excited for this series, and we hope you are too!
