favorites: the best of things list

Yesterday, as Evan and I drove home from the research station, we got to talking about some of our favorite things. Or rather, I got to rambling about childhood memories of delicious cakes and pies from bakeries that are long gone, and special meals from Florida that we both miss something awful. I was making a mental list of my favorites until I started asking Evan to elaborate on his – in which instance I made a little digital list on my iphone as I prompted him to recall his favorite meals and food items with the initial “ok, tell me the best __________ (fill in the blank) you’ve ever had” . Here’s where it all started:

I began with, I remember when I was a child, my mother would buy my birthday cakes from a bakery in town called Nuttin Fancy (long gone, unfortunately). I remember her chocolate cake/chocolate icing was the best I’ve ever had – still to this day! I wish I could get a hold of that recipe so I could figure out what ingredient she uses that made her cakes exceptionally more delectable over others. You can imagine my anguish when she closed up shop?
So that sparked my additional list of favorites, or, “the best dish I’ve ever had”. Allow me to share:

This was fun for us! We were able to re-live some memories of food that brought us together, or that we shared with loved ones along our separate paths of life. Have you ever made a list like this?  I plan to add this Best of Things on-going compendium to my “Read About” side bar on the blog. Speaking of lists, have you checked out my list of Things to Do in Life ? I will be updating it constantly as my bucket list grows.

Here are some other favorites I discovered around the blog world this week:
how to add glitter to anything and make it stay
a beautiful assortment of wilderness images
how to make pies in tiny jars
Danni’s pretty collection of letters
this is a beautiful top

Alright friends, have a beautiful and safe weekend!
Come back here on Monday for some more great nature and sustainable daily living.
Next week, I’ll show you how to make homemade dog food and we may even have a giveaway, so stay tuned!

With love,

  1. It was fun! I didn't even think about making it into a post when we were chatting about all these different things and then it was like, ya know, other couples should try this cause its quite fun and you learn a lot about the other person!! And unfortunately, no the first photo is from a Pinterest pin that didn't have a source. I'm hoping someone points it out to me when they notice it! I did the typography on top though. :)
