how to: be a savvy shopper

How often do you shop online? Daily? Monthly? Do you ever take a few extra minutes to search for the best deal on whatever it is your purchasing? If you haven’t done so ever before, then you’ll learn something new from me today! I love to online shop, especially since moving to an island where certain items I enjoy are limited. For instance, I buy my all natural hair and skin products, hemp protein and other food items from Drugstore.com and get free shipping. Rather than hunt down these items from several stores within a 50 mile radius, paying premium prices for the imports to the island, I search for them online and save with deals and coupons. Yes, coupons. Not clip-n-save types, but online codes. Then, on top of that, I use a sneaky browser tool (okay, it’s not sneaky, but it does seem that way) called Invisible Hand, which is constantly scoping out the lowest price for the item you’re searching depending on what website you’re currently on (LOVE this tool). Here are …

be beautiful: wardrobe on a budget

I’d like to share about a great idea I saw on Meghan’s blog one day, where she introduced us all to online consignment – buying new or like new clothes from online retailers, and sending in your own old (gently used) clothes for money or store credit. It didn’t take me long to realize this was a pretty smart and spendthrifty idea. I jumped on that train and explored two of my favorites: ThredUp and Twice, and had a few new pieces sent my way. My experience with both companies has been wonderful – I’ve sent clothes to both sites, got paid, and made purchases that resulted in great quality items from brands I love. ThredUp will even donate items that they deem are not resellable, which I’m thankful in knowing that my clothes don’t end up in the garbage if they don’t meet the high standards for resale. So maybe it’s time to revisit some of those clothes with the tags still on them? Or time to bring out the favorite scarf and shoes …

tieks by gavrieli

Outfit: Cardi, Forever 21 | Tank, LOFT | Pants, LOFT | Shoes, Tieks | Anchor Ring, James Avery | Black gem ring, Lily Emme  | Watch, Fossil My favorite shoes. Versatile, comfortable, well constructed and stylish. The best ballet flats ever invented, these are my go-to shoes for any occasion. Dress up, dress down – the perfect companion for traveling, working and going out. Hello Tieks by Gavrieli! I bought the Ballerina Pink Tieks because I wanted a subtle color that would match everything in my wardrobe – I’m usually always in navy, sage green, browns and purples. They are such a nice subtle shade of pink, that they even appear cream in some of my photos. This was exactly what I wanted – something soft and gentle, just like the real Italian leather used to create these beauties. (hey, you don’t want leather? No fear, there’s vegan options too!) I loved everything about my first experience with Tieks; from opening the cute blue box, to unwrapping the lovely creamy leather flats, to the first …

one year blog anniversary

Happy One Year Blogging Anniversary to me! That’s right, August ushers in the one year mark for sea, field and tribe and I couldn’t be more excited. Thank you to all my readers for making this an awesome first year. I can’t express my thanks for your support, your comments, your thoughts and suggestions and the time out your day that you spend with me here in this little community. I hope you’ve loved the time with me as much as I have with you!  This month, I’ll have one pretty sweet giveaway with some great contributors – some might be new to the blog, and others you may have seen around here before. Stay tuned because I won’t announce the giveaway in advance, it will be a surprise on the day it goes live! You can also expect some other great things in August – I’ve been playing around with my camera and learning more about shooting in manual and all the options of a DSLR. I hope you perhaps notice a little change …

favorites: navy, leather, stripes & dots

I am absolutely loving all the stripes, canvas, leather, seersucker, polka dots, chambray and chiffon in this Spring’s fashion. That has my name all over it and I can’t simply get enough. My wardrobe needs a major uplift, considering I’ve been wearing some of the same essential pieces since my senior year of high school ( ahem… 6 years ago). These pieces feel so nautical and evoke such a sense of ocean wonder to me. I’ve been online window shopping J Crew, Madewell and others for a bit. Here are some pieces in my shopping cart right now: The bag in the first photo I actually purchased and couldn’t be more in love with it. You can find it here. These others are happily placed in my cart, waiting my credit card number to send them on their merry way to my postal box. Not sure when that will happen, but nonetheless. casual style: gingham & blowfish

This is my first ever style post, so please judge gently! In fact, this was quite an experience:  just as I had primped and prepped everything for this shoot – the skies parted and the typical afternoon shower unleashed for about an hour. So, hair frazzled and ground wet – I present the first of only a few fashion posts on this blog. The reason?  I want to share about my lovely Blowfish shoes, of which you may remember the Blowfish giveaway about a month ago?  I received this particular pair of shoes from Blowfish – shipped straight from Malibu, CA across the oceans to me in Puerto Rico. I was elated when they arrived, as I was looking forward to a stylish and dressier pair of sandals for my evening ventures on the island. I wasn’t sure how comfortable they would be at first, but I’m honestly delighted with the construction and fit! I’m a size 6, but can wear anything from a 5 to a 7 depending on the brand. I chose a …
