Here are a couple fun and simple decor ideas – one involves lots of glitter and every day pieces, the other is a festive garland for parties, meditation rooms, office style or really anywhere that needs some bursts of color (I’ve centered it around the upcoming Mexican festival of Dia de Los Muertos). Both are super easy and fun, so let’s get started!

This “glitter anything” idea comes from a post I found here. It really just involves two basic ingredients that can be found at any craft store – including Walmart! Just a coat of Modge Podge onto an old cleaned candle jar, sprinkle with a coating of glitter and you have a brand new candle holder, perfect for tea lights! Or in my case, I grabbed a few shells and pieces of coral (plus that cute little elephant!).[The “I can glitter that” slogan creatively adapted by Evan from Portlandia’s “we can pickle that”. It’s funny if you’re into that sort of humor, you should watch it right here].

Another method to glitter anything is to actually mix your glitter into the Modge Podge before coating your item. Think of all your possibilities: wedding table decorations, Christmas ornaments, cellphone cases, ipod covers, it’s endless! And the best part? The glitter actually stays. Hooray! No messes! Ok, now onto the next fun and simple craft project: pom pom garlands!

These are fast and simple when you use the Clover Pom Pom Maker (a $5 buy at most online shops! I have size Large), that I mentioned in this previous post. All you need are several colors of yarn ($2 each at Walmart), a pair of scissors and the Pom Pom Maker. Now, I didn’t think the package came with a complete set of instructions… I sort of had to figure it out as I went. So I’ve made my own guide to reduce your time spent trying to work the little device. Here ya go:

And you’re done!! Perfect pom poms every time! Just tie them together to create a fun and festive garland! Mine will hang from our ceiling on the outdoor patio, alongside strings of twinkling lights, to create an alfresco Mexican street festival appeal for my dinner party next week.  But you can use these anywhere: kid’s birthday parties, Christmas garlands for your tree or fireplace, girl’s night in dinner parties… Get creative! These two DIYs are fun and simple, even though they aren’t necessarily inspired by nature, I still think they are a fun addition to your DIY knowledge bank, because really the possibilities are endless once you start thinking about where and how to use these. Have fun!
