Today I want to introduce you to the lovely and talented photographer and designer, Pati Mo of Pretty Talk blog. I first discovered Pati’s beautiful travel + design blog from a post on Dearest Nature. I love the way Pati can capture a moment outdoors; I always feel like I’m right there with her when I wander through her images on the blog. You can wander too; find out more about Pati:
Pati Mo loves all things visual. Originally from Brazil, Pati moved to Wisconsin in 2004 to attend college. Now she is moving back to Brazil to attend school for graphic design and art direction; she is excited to start her career as an art director and designer. She recently created Pretty Talk – a blog about travel and design peppered with everyday inspiration and photography. Through her posts, Pati wants to spark curiosity in her readers to travel and explore natural wonders. Also, Pati hopes to meet other creatives that share similar interests so she can share inspiration and grow creatively.
1. Where all have you traveled thus far?
I feel like I have a lot yet to explore, but so far I’ve been to South America, Europe, Central and North America. This year I took time off to explore more the U.S. because I have only lived in Wisconsin and didn’t spend much time anywhere else. On my to-go list re Thailand, China, Morocco and Japan.
2. Which location has been your favorite?
This is a very hard question because I think every place has a unique personality and culture which I love. However, my last trip to Brazil was one of my favorites by far. I went to Ubatuba which is a couple hours north of Sao Paulo. Ubatuba has more than 100 beaches, so many hiking trails and beautiful wildlife which makes a dream destination for any adventurer.

3. Why is this place so special to you?
I think this place is so special because I volunteered in an organization to save sea turtles so I was able to do snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking and interact with nature on a level that I have never experienced in Wisconsin.

My most memorable experience from the trip was bringing a recovered turtle back to the ocean. It had one of its flippers amputated because of a fishing line so we were nervous, we weren’t sure if it would be able to swim again. As soon as we set it on the ground, a couple of feet away from the water, it didn’t move at all. However, as soon as the first wave hit, the turtle started moving and swam away naturally.
5. If you were to recommend a local dish, what would it be and why?
It would have to be rice and beans. You simply can’t leave Brazil without trying its signature rice and beans dish. That combination is always present in any Brazilian restaurant you go to.

6. How do you incorporate design into how you travel?
When I travel, I try not to go to only places where I have seen in travel catalogues or magazines or that are considered to have good design. Anything that’s different of what I’m used to has potential to be beautiful. When designing, traveling helps me look at something from many different angles and it encourages me to be creative.

7. Do you feel that nature is an inspiration in where you choose to travel? How so?
Definitely. I am always drawn to natural sightings as opposed to man-made. Don’t take me wrong, I enjoy seeing architecture and buildings, but there are so many textures, smells, colors, flavors and patterns in nature that are so unique and different from what I see in my day-to-day routine that I can’t help but feel inspired by it. I tend to get out-of-the-world experiences when I’m not around things I see in everyday life, when I’m far away from the life I am used to in the city.

I collect postcards. No matter where I go, I try to buy at least one postcard and write a memory from the trip on the back. Going through my postcards brings me back to the place and the experiences I lived during the trip. I also try to stay away from cheesy souvenirs and buy local products that highlights the craftsmanship of the local culture. If you go to my room, you’ll find many colorful pieces – especially jewelry – from places I’ve gone.
9. Where are you going next OR where is your dream travel spot and why?
Well, so far I am moving to Brazil next Thursday to attend school, however, my travel wish list is so long that you are better off asking where I don’t want to go haha! My next destination I am hoping to be China or Thailand – I am interested to see how different their culture is.

10. Ok, choose one and tell me why: the sea, the mountains or the meadows?
Although I truly love the mountains and meadows, I would have to say the ocean probably because the waves, the beach and sand brings me so much tranquility and peace and I love that. And under the sea is a whole new world to explore! [yes, it is!!]
