So I mentioned on my Facebook earlier this week that one post would feature something very close to me in which I reach out to you guys asking for your advice and suggestions. So here it is….
Some of you may have realized that art takes a special place in my heart – it was something I enjoyed doing as a child and I turned it into a hobby as I proceeded with a career in science. I was doodling one day and discovered a love for sketching marine life – particularly fish. The above photo is my favorite fish – the mandarinfish – of which I also have tattooed on my foot (see the image here in the treasures shop banner). Ok, so why am I bringing this up? Because I need your help to turn my dream into a reality. Let me tell you how:
I want to turn these little illustrations into a children’s coloring book with an emphasis on marine conservation. I have so many concepts and ideas for this book, but I really have no idea where to start. I figured by presenting my style to my readers and the world, maybe some doors will open up. I never truly know who reads my blog.. I’m hoping maybe one of you will have some advice on how to present this to a publisher, or even which publisher to consider? Or maybe some suggestions on how to publish the book myself ? I don’t suppose I really even know the right questions to ask!
So think about it and leave a comment below if you’d like. OR if you feel your comments are more personal, feel free to email me directly. Anything is appreciated! You guys have been so wonderful thus far in these first two months of blogging and I figured maybe it was time to let you even further into a bit of my personal life. Thanks for letting me share!
Today I’m in Florida, enjoying the States for a wedding during the weekend. I don’t return to PR until Monday, so there probably won’t be another post until Tuesday or Wednesday as I take a little break. (Be watching, there’s another giveaway coming up REALLY soon!!) As always, I’ll keep ya’ll updated with photos and findings on Facebook. Enjoy your weekend everyone! Be safe!
Until next week,
Hmm, publishing is hard, but I LOVE your idea. As a writer, I didn't know where to begin, and in the end, I published my poetry anthology through createspace.com. It's affiliated with Amazon, and can be totally free depending on what options you choose. You can then sell on amazon, amazon europe, barnes and noble, etc. Because I was print only, I don't know much about publishing a colouring book type document. I'm sure there are options there for a publication like yours, so it might be a place to check out if you find that self-publishing is the route you want to go. it was really easy to use too for a person *coughmecough* who knows zero about computers other than the internet! Best wishes!!

Depending on how many pages, magcloud.com may be an option for self-publishing. There's also lulu.com and publishing directly through Amazon's CreateSpace, which have relative plus-es and minus-es, depending. For a book that will have color covers and a black/white interior, and just a few pages, though — magcloud would probably be the lowest price per unit *and* gives you a digital option.
Better, they're print-on-demand, so there's no upfront costs for you. They just take the publishing expenses out when someone orders. Plus, they handle all the shipping, which is a huge, huge boon.
Hope that at least helps you get started!

This is a fantastic idea! Unfortunately I have NO idea how you should go about getting it published – good luck though!

They would make a darling coloring book. I wish I knew more about getting published. I do think you're very talented and I love your work.

Are you familiar with Kickstarter? If you self-publish, use Kickstarter to get the funding! The most successful Kickstarter projects I've seen offer nice goodies to people who back the projects. Prints of your beautiful art would be the perfect incentive to raise people's pledges.
Yes, people really DO use it. I know people who've gotte their projects off the ground with Kickstarter, and my boyfriend recently backed this project on Kickstarter, and we're looking forward to getting our signed copy soon.
Good luck!
